The healing art of Reflexology was first practised in ancient Egypt, China,
India and Japan. It was introduced to the Western World in 1923 by an
American ear, nose and throat surgeon, Dr William Fitzgerald. He discovered
that there are ten channels of energy running from the head to the
fingertips and toes. The Reflexology chart was later revised by Mrs Eunice
Ingham in the 1930s.
Reflexology is a natural,
holistic therapy, based on the principle that reflex points in the hands and
feet correspond with all areas of the body. Following stress, illness,
injury or disease the body is in a state of “imbalance” and vital energy
pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning properly.
Reflexology can be used to
restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium and encourage healing. A
specialised form of massage is used, applying pressure to various reflex
points, easing blockages and restoring the free flow of energy to the whole
Tensions are eased and
circulation and elimination are improved. Reflexology has the ability to unite
body, mind and spirit in a positive way, reduce pain and encourage the body’s
natural healing process, often counteracting a lifetime of misuse.
number of people are using this safe, natural therapy
as a way of relaxing
balancing and harmonising the body.
